Learn about Synthesis & Making Music!

Are you ready to learn about the basics of synthesis and producing electronic music? This course is for you!

You'll learn synthesis on the Moog Music Mavis semi-modular synthesizer, which is provided for use by Patchwerks during the class.

Sign up for a 4-module course live, in-person in our Seattle showroom. The course meets on Sundays from 2 to 5PM starting on September 17th and is what you need to get started learning hardware, working with software, and interfacing the two.

The course will be given 2-5 PM in the Patchwerks Seattle Showroom on the following dates:

  • September 17
  • September 24
  • October 1 * laptop recommended
  • October 8 * laptop recommended

Why take this course?

Today there are more tools than ever to use in creating electronic music. The purpose of this in-person course is to provide an overview of key tools and to deliver specific techniques that you can develop and use in your own musical expressions.

Subjects covered include:

  • Synthesis fundamentals and techniques
  • Intro to modular synthesis
  • Production basics in Ableton
  • Hybrid hardware and software setups for recording and arrangement
  • Sampling

By the end of this course, you will have gained a set of techniques in hardware and software to aid in the process of creating music. You will have met and collaborated with other members of the Seattle-area electronic music community. And, you will have the skills to record a track idea.

This course is designed for people looking for structure and a community with which to invest energy and time into developing a musical practice. While the course is open to all experience levels, we recommend having a basic familiarity with digital audio workstation (DAW) software and synthesizers prior to the start of class.

The price for 1 student to take the course is $349. Note that Mavis instruments will be provided to all students for use during class, so purchase of a Mavis is not necessary to take the course.

After registering for this course, our Lessons Coordinator will reach out to you by email with the syllabus, instructions, and downloads to complete prior to class.

Mask-wearing will be voluntary. Patchwerks COVID protocols will be updated per CDC recommendations.

Class will be held in the event space adjacent to our Seattle showroom.

Participants under 18 should be accompanied by a guardian – contact us at support@patchwerks.com to discuss registration details.

Purchase of this course is not eligible for returns or exchanges.
